November in Satu Mare brings the first cold temperatures, many rainy days, and the end of the active vegetation cycle. Even if the garden seems “asleep”, this is an excellent time for some essential tasks that will make a big difference in spring.

1. Preparing the irrigation system for winter
If you have an automatic irrigation system, it is important to empty it and blow it out with air to prevent water from freezing in the pipes. In November, nighttime temperatures can drop significantly, and a simple oversight can lead to cracks or even replacement of some components.

2. Final lawn work
Although the lawn is no longer actively growing, one last mowing at a slightly higher height will help it overwinter well. This is also the time to collect leaves to prevent snow mold. If you use a robotic lawn mower, it should be removed from the garden, cleaned, and stored in a dry place for the cold season.
3. Autumn plantings
November is a suitable month for planting balled and burlapped or container-grown trees and shrubs. The soil is still soft enough for digging, and plants have time to establish roots before the frost.

4. Garden evaluation and planning for the next season
Since there are fewer tasks, November is an ideal month to evaluate the garden layout: which plants did well, which areas needed more water, how the lawn or irrigation system performed. It is also a good time to start planning spring design, whether it’s redesigning areas, adding new plants, or optimizing irrigation. Now you can also decide whether it’s worth integrating or replacing a robotic lawn mower, depending on lawn needs and the time you want to save next season.
Even though the days are short and cold, November is a month when you can prepare the garden to start strong in spring. A well-maintained garden now means less work and more enjoyment during the warm season.
